Final narrative sequence I created based on the journey of a stone. The concept was meant to show how the aesthetics of a stone change as they get weathered and move environment. I focused on how shape and colour are the biggest variants. But I think this message gets a bit lost in the images. Maybe I shouldn't have made the images so abstract. As the brief was to base the sequence on a narrative, I don't know if the story is defined enough. I tried to introduce the stone with the black dot as the character and have it re-occur and moving in each image. but still dont know if it has a clear enough beginning, middle or end.

I spent a good few days at the beach in france collected certain coloured stones and organising them into grids. The concept was to try and re-arrange nature and create unnatural structure within it.

Looking at shadow and structure in man-made forms and natural forms

More experimentation and ideas produced from looking at vegetal chair. Beginnings of christmas project - which should end in a narrative sequence ...

The Vegetal chair in all its glory - designed by Bouroullec Brothers - made by Vitra

Batik's I made just experimenting with colour and natural form
Reverting the ironically plastic mass produced chair, back into its natural from. I used the shape and design of the chair but have tried to distort it, and revert it back to nature by using pva covered, dried leaves. Bit messy but does the job!

Above are the drawings I did based on a chair. I chose the Vegetal chair which was designed by the two french brothers 'The Bouroullec Brothers'. The chair design is based on the structure of a chair - and was inspired by a previous design the brothers created which is a canopy like structure based of the structure of algae. I like how this chair is modern, designed from 2004- 2008, yet challenges the modern mentality that less is more. Its intricate form can work in a natural garden environment, but can look equally as good in an ultra-minimal interior.

Above are a series of illustrations based on a japanese story about a women who makes the best dumplings in her town. Shes casually making them in her kitchen when her floor caves in and her dumpling goes down with it. She chases the dumpling and finds herself in a new undiscovered world- (which I based on Bulba Hill - the butter world I posted a few weeks ago) Anyway shes running after this dumpling and passes a strange man who tell her to beware as there are creatures who eat people like her further down the path. She decides to ignore this information and continues down the path. Another one of these men grab her, and he tells her to hide behind him as one of the monsters is coming. The hideous monster approaches sniffing the air, sensing a tasty human snack. He spots her but is persuaded to simply keep her as a personal chef, he takes her home to his house where she is given a magic paddle to make her dumplings. This paddle with just one grain of rice, multiplied and multiplied with enough rice to feed all the monsters. But this life wasnt for mrs dumpling, one day she decided to make a run for it. When the monsters went out, she grabbed the paddle and ran down to the lake. There she got in a boat and rowed as fast and far away as she could. Unfortunately the monster find out she was missing and ran after her. She laughs at them thinking how on earth are you going to swim over and catch me- how wrong she was. The monsters start slurping up the water in the lake until her boats stranded on the river bed. They start running towards her, there's nothing she can do, so she decides to grab the paddle and start waving it in their faces. This unexpectedly makes the monsters go into fits of hysterical laughter, so much so that they vomit all the water back up - Mrs dumpling surfs the wave home, paddle in tow and becomes the most success women in town, as she and her magic paddle feed the whole neighbourhood.  Quite a nice little story...

The images above are from a poster project - where we had to pick a well known slogan and redesign it leaving behind its well known connotations - Mine was Power to the People ...

These are some postcard designs I did for my butter world- which is a few posts back...
